Selected Presentations and Workshops:
A Holistic Anti-Violence Agenda for the Youth Justice Movement (A multi-media presentation and workshop)
Working to end violence against women of color now means challenging issues as diverse as sexual assault, incarceration and poverty. This session explores how a wider definition and understanding of violence can serve D.C. organizations working for youth justice and safety. (Includes poetry, music and visual arts!)
- What forms of violence impact young people of color in D.C. and how are they connected?
- How does a wider understanding of violence impact our vision and strategies for safety?
- How can we work together to develop an agenda focused on ending all forms of violence against youth?
Vision Is Our Power: Creating Safety In Our Communities Without the Police (A film screening and workshop)
Vision Is Our Power is a film produced by the Visions to Peace Project. In this daring and thoughtful documentary, youth and youth justice workers reveal the many faces of violence against youth. They share personal stories, art, and honest dialog with hope of speaking new visions for safety that do not depend on policing and prisons. Following the screening, we facilitate a discussion and series of exercises in which participants work together to create visions and strategies for ending multiple forms of violence against youth.
Please send an email to visionstopeace (at) yahoo (dot) com if you are interested in bringing one of our workshops to your organization.
